Are Bronze Finishes Gaining on Silver?

Posted by Ben Thompson on 07.3.15

Bronze finishes are making a comeback! For a long time now, nickel and chrome finishes have been all the rage, but we are starting to see bronze fixtures, lighting, and other details gain popularity. Bronze gives a rich feeling to a space and works very well in traditional, rustic and Mediterranean style spaces. When you are looking to add warmth, consider bronze finishes. Blending finishes is also becoming a trend; everything doesn’t have to match. The shine of stainless or chrome can be complemented nicely by a matte bronze finish.

The advantages of bronze finishes

Oil-rubbed bronze has some great advantages. It’s easy to clean, easy to match, and doesn’t show water spots or finger prints! It may cost more than chrome or brushed nickel but the cost may be worth it to create your aesthetic vision.

How can I incorporate bronze into my home?

Bronze is being seen in more than just fixtures and hardware. Cool roof tiles, which reflect solar energy, are popular in weathered bronze tones. Many of our recent clients have selected bronze lighting fixtures and also are mixing metal finishes in their bathrooms. A tile design incorporating metallic or matte bronze is another way to bring warmth into a space. For countertops, you can find shades of bronze in granite, quartz, recycled glass, and even concrete. Whirlpool introduced the Sunset Bronze Kitchen Suite earlier this year, offering an alternative to stainless steel.
