Some may assume having a family friendly kitchen means that they will be sacrificing style for durability, which is not always the case. For the homeowners of this newly remodeled kitchen Thompson Remodeling created a space that would hold up to the everyday wear and tear of their family of all ages, yet still allow them to entertain a more mature crowd. Here are a few ways we created this family-friendly kitchen.
Merge Two Rooms Into One
The space off of the kitchen was previously separated by overhead cabinets and countertop. By removing both the cabinets and countertop and merging the two rooms a multi-functional space was created. This space now allows the family to gather without crowding one another and during dinner parties the cook is no longer isolated from everyone else.
Encourage Organization
The kitchen was designed to update the home with modern conveniences as well as make it family-friendly and organized. Built-in lockers now provide an area for each child to keep their personally items. The location of the lockers is a key component, by placing them directly inside the garage door it is simple for the kids to stay organized by allowing them to easily place their book bags and coats into the lockers upon entering the home.
Add Grown Up Details
Just because a kitchen is “kid friendly” doesn’t mean it should lack adult sophistication. The homeowners enjoy entertaining friends and family so it was important to them that this kitchen served both the needs of their family and friends. By choosing materials that were durable but also added stylish character to the space both needs were met.
