Setting the Stage with Your Staircase

Which design element in your home plays an essential part in setting the stylistic tone for the main levels? Have you guessed what it is? It’s your staircase. Whether it’s a classic wooden staircase with traditional wood spindles and balusters or an open, modern stair with metal handrails, the stage is being set for the design aesthetic in a particular room or space. Sometimes, your staircase doesn't quite match with the rest of your home and when you are getting ready to remodel, it's important to give it the attention it deserves.

We have several fantastic examples from recent remodels we've completed that demonstrate how a staircase can create style expectations.

Staircase 1

Thompson Remodeling renovated the main living areas of this home including the entry, staircase, kitchen, living, and dining rooms. There is a transitional design aesthetic throughout featuring light, natural wood tones, gray exposed brick and wrought iron details. You can see that these are introduced as soon as you enter the home and they are repeated throughout the rest of the main level.

Staircase 2

This project included three additions to a farmhouse, which is filled with architectural details with a Craftsman flair. The trim around the doors and windows in the entryway and the gorgeous newel post are nods to what is found in the rest of the home.

Staircase 3

In this condo renovation, we opened up the floorplan, renovated the kitchen, bathrooms, and main living areas including the entry and staircase. In every space, we infused the owner's rich, traditional design aesthetic by featuring warm, wood tones, earthy tiles, and wrought iron touches.
