Family Friendly Remodeling Projects

Durability, functionality and safety are important considerations of a remodeling plan especially when your household includes children. Knowing that your flooring can handle the daily activities without scratching or that you actually have a place for all the kids to store their book bags and sports equipment can really provide some peace of mind. If your home could use some improvements to better suit your family’s lifestyle, here are several suggestions on projects you might want to consider.

  1. A mudroom. Every home can benefit from a well-organized and functional mudroom. The best location is near one of the main entrances of your home. Outfit this space with the necessary storage you need to accommodate coats, shoes, books, bags, sports equipment, and pet supplies. We love lockers with drawers and hooks for coats and hats. The great thing is that you can customize to your heart’s content.
  2. Luxury vinyl floors. You don’t have to sacrifice style for durability and low maintenance any more. Today, there are great looking luxury vinyl floors with texture from hand-scraping and color variations that rival the look of real wood. Clean up is easy and they will hold up to the constant traffic your family will give it.
  3. Quartz countertops. The non-porous surface of a quartz countertop makes it scratch, heat and stain resistant. Plus, they are also available in a wide variety of color, textures and patterns.
  4. Built-ins. Create a space for homework, crafts or reading in a bedroom, basement or even under the stairs. Incorporate a desk area and cubbies or bookcases.
  5. Floating vanities. When you have little ones who need a stool to reach the sink, a floating vanity allows you to keep a stool handy when needed. And when it’s not in use, just tuck it below.
  6. Beverage refrigerators. If you are remodeling a kitchen and have the space outside the main working areas, add a small beverage fridge where little ones can easily grab a drink.
  7. Tiled walls in bathrooms. Whether it’s dirt or flying toothpaste that lands on the wall while the kids are cleaning up, it’s so much easier easy to wipe off a tile surface than a painted wall.
  8. Semi-gloss paint. In places where you can’t tile the walls, use a semi-gloss paint; it’s much easier to clean than eggshell, satin or flat.
