Thompson Remodeling Wins Regional Chrysalis Awards for Kitchen Remodel and Basement Remodel.

Posted by Ben Thompson on 05.1.15

The Chrysalis Awards named Thompson Remodeling of Grand Rapids, Regional winners in the Kitchen Remodel $75,000-$100,000 and Bachrysalis_colorsement Remodel categories of their annual awards competition.

Continuing to set new standards of professionalism, 92 remodeling companies from across the United States were named winners at the 2015 Chrysalis Awards for Remodeling Excellence. The entries were judged on overall design, the creative use of space and materials, and the degree to which the project enhanced the original structure.

“This was the first time we entered the Chrysalis Awards and we are proud to have won in two categories,” said Ben Thompson, President of Thompson Remodeling. “To create the winning kitchen project, our design team discussed and planned the usage of every cabinet, which allowed for customized storage solutions throughout. For the basement remodel, we created a family hang out space that is open and inviting with plenty of multi-functional spaces for the parents and children to enjoy.”

The Chrysalis Awards program, begun in 1994, recognizes the nation’s best work in fifteen general categories of residential and commercial remodeling. The Chrysalis Awards are open to any professional remodeler and design professional in the United States.

“Winning awards in multiple categories is difficult to do. Not only does this speak to Thompson Remodeling’s versatility, but to their commitment to quality on every project,” says Ken Kanline, Director of the Awards.

About the Winning Projects

Kitchen Remodel

kitchen cabinets

The kitchen in this 1950’s home needed a complete overhaul. It was dark, outdated and inefficient. The homeowners wanted to give the space a modern feel without losing the 50’s vibe that is consistent throughout the rest of the home.

The finished kitchen has opened up the main gathering space of the home allowing the parents to use the kitchen without losing sight of the children. The two L-shaped work areas improve efficiency and flow. Custom organization solutions can be found throughout included a lazy susan trash and recycle center, a pull-out pantry, and steel lined bins for dog food.

Deliberate lighting, hardware, and tile selections that give the space a modern vibe, balance perfectly with the traditional feel of the cabinets and floors. It feels and looks as if this is how the house was originally designed.

Basement Remodel

This family’s basement had become a catchall space and was sorely underutilized. Although it was spacious, the current layout wasn’t working. The homeowners wanted to transform this space from closed and dreary to open and inviting.

The transformation of this basement is amazing. Walls were opened to create flow between the game room, eating space and theater rooms. One end of a staircase was closed off, enabling the soundproofing of the theater.

A light neutral palette and gorgeous lighting fixtures make you forget that you are in the basement. Careful attention was paid to every selection to not only create the Industrial feel, but also make the space truly unique.

Now, this basement functions as the great family hang out space the homeowners envisioned!
