These terms refer to the production method used to make the cabinets. The key difference between each is the level of customization options available, production lead-time, and material quality. In this blog we will provide you with a description and the pros and cons of each type of kitchen cabinet. ### Stock Cabinets Stock kitchen cabinets are pre-made and mass-produced. No customization of size or style is available. Most are made of particle board covered in veneer or imitation wood. *Pros:* - Budget friendly - Quick delivery time *Cons:* - Limited sizes, styles, and colors - Less expensive materials can affect quality over time ### Semi-Custom Semi-custom kitchen cabinets are a cross between stock and custom cabinetry. You will find extended size options are available beyond standard stock cabinet offerings. Semi-custom cabinets allow for customization of details such as wood finish, door fronts, drawer style, size, and cabinet depth. *Pros:* - Lots of customization options - Less expensive than custom cabinets * Cons:* - Some limits to customization options - Longer delivery time than stock ### Custom Cabinets Custom kitchen cabinets are built to your exact specifications which means you can choose the size, wood type, wood finish, door type, door details, you name it! An experienced carpenter will build them made-to-order. *Pros:* - Limitless customization options - High quality craftsmanship *Cons:* - Expensive - Long lead-time [![Kitchen For the Social Chef](https://no-cache.hubspot.com/cta/default/326139/23b9a965-1b33-43f9-ad06-db4c6df70833.png)](https://cta-redirect.hubspot.com/cta/redirect/326139/23b9a965-1b33-43f9-ad06-db4c6df70833) Topics: [Thompson Times](https://www.thompsonremodeling.com/new-blog/topic/thompson-times), [Kitchens](https://www.thompsonremodeling.com/new-blog/topic/kitchens-2) [** Previous article](https://www.thompsonremodeling.com/new-blog/give-your-kitchen-a-facelift/) [** Back to all articles](https://www.thompsonremodeling.com/new-blog) [Next article **](https://www.thompsonremodeling.com/new-blog/thompsons-tips-for-a-stress-free-remodel/) Blog Subscription ### Subscribe to the Blog for the latest news ### Recent Articles 03.21.25 ### [Reignite Your Remodel: Expert Tips to Move Forward](https://www.thompsonremodeling.com/new-blog/reignite-your-remodel-expert-tips-to-move-forward) 11.1.18 ### [Kitchens](https://www.thompsonremodeling.com/new-blog/portfolio-item/kitchens/) 12.11.17 ### [Front Porch Remodel Spotlight: A New Entry with Nostalgic Roots](https://www.thompsonremodeling.com/new-blog/front-porch-remodel-spotlight-new-entry-nostalgic-roots/) 12.11.17 ### [5 Benefits of a No-Threshold Shower](https://www.thompsonremodeling.com/new-blog/5-benefits-no-threshold-shower/) 12.11.17 ### [Kitchen Remodel Spotlight: Mission Accomplished!](https://www.thompsonremodeling.com/new-blog/kitchen-remodel-spotlight-mission-accomplished/) ### Popular Tags All** [All ](https://www.thompsonremodeling.com/blog?)
