Houzz Reveals Top Kitchen Design Trends for 2020

Every year, Houzz surveys homeowners who have completed renovations on their home in the last 12 months or are planning to in the next few months, to learn about trends and preferences in a variety of project types. This year, their kitchen survey revealed many design elements are maintaining their popularity into the new decade.

Here’s a look at five top scoring kitchen design elements.

Transitional Style

2020 marks the third year in a row that transitional style kitchens have ranked most popular. Transitional is a blend of contemporary and traditional design elements, which makes it one of the easiest styles to blend with other elements in your home. 

Cabinet Upgrades

One of the most impactful changes to make in your kitchen is upgrading your cabinets. 68% of those surveyed replaced all of their cabinets as part of their remodel. 

White Cabinets

White cabinets have claimed the top position again in 2020, with 45% of those surveyed selecting to go with white. Wood toned cabinets are in second place with 22%, followed by gray in third place. 

Shaker Style Cabinets

This year, Shaker style cabinets rank #1 with 61% choosing this style characterized as a 5-piece door featuring a center recessed panel without any additional detail.

Specialty Storage in Cabinets

Keeping items organized within cabinets and pantries is a priority for many of those who were surveyed. The most wanted items include pullout waste and recycle bins, lazy susans, and pull or swing out drawers.
