Pantone Crowns Greenery as 2017’s Color of the Year

This year, Pantone’s color of the year selection really makes sense to me. Greenery is a bright, yellow-green that reminds me of springtime, especially a beautifully manicured lawn and new growth on trees and shrubs. It’s a color that signifies rebirth and renewal. Perhaps more than any recent year in memory, this color is very reflective of what we all hope a new year has in store for us.

The world-renowned color experts at Pantone take nine months to travel the globe and study all sorts of industries in search of a shade that is making an impact. This year they found that green was prevalent in art, fashion, and even automotive. They also take a careful look at the social and economic climates around the world and select a representative hue. Here in the U.S. most of the year had a laser focus on the Presidential election. Greenery captures the need the start anew and that’s exactly why it was chosen.

Do you remember last year’s Rose Quartz and Serenity Blue? And just a few months ago, we wrote about Benjamin Moore and PPG’s selections of Shadow and Violet Verbena, both shades of purple. As color trends go, Greenery is actually an easy one to incorporate into your décor or wardrobe. Green is a neutral in nature that will pair well with red, orange, yellow and blue.
