Quartz countertops were named top trends for both kitchen and bath designs this year in the annual National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) member survey. The Thompson Remodeling design team was not at all surprised since quartz has been a popular selection for our clients over the past year.
Quartz countertops provide a beautifully clean and sleek look and can work well in contemporary and traditional designs. It is available in a wide variety of color and patterns; many mimicking the look of granite or marble. Quartz is also known as “engineered stone” and can be branded as Silestone®, Cambria®, Ceasarstone®, or Zodiac®. It is the hardest counter surface you can select, which makes it extremely durable for high use areas and households with children.
Quartz countertops are made by combining approximately 90% quartz with a resin for adhesiveness, which is then tinted with color. The non-porous surface makes it scratch and heat resistant, giving it a leg up on granite. Another reason it’s so popular is because it doesn’t require sealing or special cleaning, making it virtually maintenance free!
