Cabinets & Countertops Take A Dark & Dramatic Turn at KBIS

Every year thousands of builders, remodelers, and designers attend the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) to see the latest and greatest products being offered by over 600 exhibitors.  As the largest kitchen and bath design show in North America, this is THE place to spot the trends and innovations coming our way in cabinets and countertops, and this year things are taking a dark and dramatic turn – in color that is.

In recent years, white cabinetry has been by far the most popular choice of homeowners for kitchen remodels, followed by wood finishes and gray.  At this year’s KBIS show, black and navy cabinets were being shown frequently and show goers were responding positively. Both shades would work well in either a sleek modern space or a traditional one with the right countertops, flooring, and fixtures. Sound too dramatic for you? One idea for easing into this look would be to select two cabinet colors and feature the dark tone at your island.

Every year, more patterns are available in engineered quartz countertops and this year’s crop of new offerings did not disappoint.  Manufacturers Cambria and Cosentino were both showing dark intricate patterns featuring black backgrounds with gold or white veining.

Wood grain patterns are another trend for both quartz and solid surface countertops such as Corian. Anything from exotic patterns to more natural looking wood grains was shown for both kitchens and bathrooms.
