Thompson Remodeling has designed highly functional mess-taming spaces of all sizes and the secret to doing it well is maximizing every inch.  ### Read our tips to learn the essentials of great mudroom design. 1. **Great lighting.** Generous overhead lighting is a must. This can be done with recessed lights or a ceiling mounted fixture.  This is a great opportunity to bring your personal style into the space!![IMG_1096-495x400](https://www.thompsonremodeling.com/hs-fs/hubfs/IMG_1096-495x400.jpg?width=495&name=IMG_1096-495x400.jpg) 2. **Durable & low maintenance flooring.** As much as we love hardwood floors, your mudroom isn’t the best place for it.  Luxury vinyl plank flooring or ceramic tile are both great options as they can withstand moisture and mud and will stand up to heavy traffic from both humans and pets. 3. **Lockers or cabinets.**Use wall space to install open or closed lockers to store coats and other items.![IMG_1256-495x400](https://www.thompsonremodeling.com/hs-fs/hubfs/IMG_1256-495x400.jpg?width=495&name=IMG_1256-495x400.jpg) 4. **Wall hooks.**Hang hooks inside lockers, cabinets, or on walls. 5. **Bench seating. **Integrate a spot to sit and take off and put on shoes.
