Five Things to Do After Your Remodel is Complete

Posted by Ben Thompson on 02.24.17

After months of planning and construction your remodel is finally complete. The production crew and all their tools are gone, the house is quiet again…you finally get to enjoy your improved spaces. This is cause for celebration! We encourage you to invite your friends and family over to show them your newly improved home, after all they will be anxious to see how things turned out.   After you’ve hosted your party, or even before, here are few things we suggest that you do after your remodel is complete.

  1. Change your air filters. Dust is unavoidable, even with daily cleanup by your production crew. During your remodel your air filters have been working overtime, so be proactive and change or clean them right away after the construction is complete.
  2. Register all your warranties. Your remodeler will likely gather all of your appliance, fixture and other warranties for you in one area. Make sure that you take the time to register your products with their manufacturer. These days, most of this can be completed online, which makes it super easy.
  3. Ask your remodeler if you need to seal countertops, grout or any tile work. Your remodeler may do this for you, but you should always ask if any of the materials used in your project require any special initial or regular sealing.
  4. Request special maintenance instructions. Going along with #3, ask your remodeler if any of the materials used in your remodel require special maintenance or specific cleaning agents or instructions.
  5. Protect new flooring. If you’ve invested in beautiful new wood flooring, make sure that you install felt pads on the legs of your furniture. If you have pets, be sure to keep their nails clipped to prevent scratching.
