Each year I like to take a look back to see which of our blogs were most popular with our readers. In 2018, we wrote about a variety of remodeling topics and found that those featuring kitchen updates were the most read. It’s no surprise considering a kitchen remodel is always at the top of most homeowner’s wish list.
In today’s homes, the kitchen does more than just serve as a cooking area. It’s often the main family gathering space, entertainment hub, part-time home office, and even a homework spot. These multifunctional requirements and the prevalence of open floor plans with the kitchen at the center have made design aesthetics for this space even more important. Your kitchen needs to reflect your style preferences and feel connected with the other rooms in your home.
Sources for home design inspiration is plentiful these days. From the variety of home renovation shows to the millions of photos on sites like Instagram, Pinterest and Houzz, you could easily spend hours (or days) getting ideas for an upcoming remodeling project. There are also gorgeous model homes and glossy magazines, not to mention places you may visit on vacation or even in your everyday life. We love to see what will trickle down from all of these sources and make its way into the remodeling designs we create for our clients.
Not every kitchen remodel requires reconfiguration by removing walls or changing the layout. Many can have a dramatic transformation by updating the cabinets, countertops, flooring, appliances, and lighting. We call this type of remodel a kitchen finish upgrade.
This blog features great before and after photos of finish upgrade kitchen remodels.
If a kitchen remodel is in your future, you will likely be selecting new appliances and that may include a range hood. Unlike the rest of your appliances, this one may be a little more complicated to choose. It performs the important function of ventilating smoke, steam and odors out of your kitchen, but it also can play a big role in the overall look of the space.
Every year, Houzz surveys homeowners who are completing renovations on their home to learn about trends and preferences in a variety of project types. This year, their kitchen survey revealed shifts in design styles and confirmed selections that continue to gain and maintain their popularity.
